Typed letter signed from Orson Welles to Charlotte Bassett [manuscript], 1939 August 5.

Welles acknowledges Miss Bassett's letter as "one of the nicest [he has] ever gotten" and explains that the Mercury Theatre is now in Hollywood, making a picture (what would eventually be Citizen Kane), but "Five kings" is by no means abandoned. On letterhead of the Mercury Theatre, 1430 Broadway, but accompanied by envelope postmarked from Beverly Hills. Envelope addressed to Bassett at 6 Louisburg Square, Boston, Mass. and forwarded to Powderpoint, Duxbury, Mass. Also with a typed copy of Bassett's letter to Welles which prompted this letter, in which she supports Welles' "free editing and transposing of the plays."
